SinoSaying: Nature is Heaven

{Guilin’s famous mountains and water}

My SinoSaying is: 桂林山水甲天下 (Guìlín shānshuǐ jiǎ tiānxià)

Translated, this means: “Guilin mountains and water are heaven.”

I first learned this saying: When I visited Guilin for myself. The mountains are so curious, rounded at the top. Guilin is a pilgramage for the Chinese to see one of the most beautiful places on our earth. Anytime you talk about places to see in China, Guilin will be a recommendation.

This SinoSaying reminds me that: While China has many beautiful man-made sites, like Le Shan outside Chengdu or the Golden Buddha in Hong Kong, nothing competes with nature. (If you make the trip to Guilin, stop over in Chengdu to see Le Shan and the pandas, as well!)
