ChinaSnap! Surreal Guilin Mountains

by Courtney Gould Miller
Guilin Mountains in China January 03, 2014

This is… my snapshot of the famous Guilin mountain range in Guangxi province. This is a view that  tourists from around the world flock to see.

At the time I took this ChinaSnap! I was… gliding on a Guilin cruise boat down the Li River, enjoying a Tsing-Tao beer.

I remember… the karst landscape was unlike anything I had ever seen. The mountain ranges I grew up with in the South and in Colorado always had sharp peaks, not rounded hill tops. The Guilin mountains rock formations reminded me of a Dr. Seuss drawing–artistic, and almost surreal.

This qualifies as a ChinaSnap! because… it shows that the differences between the West and China are not only cultural.  Even the topography in China shifts one’s perspective on “how things should be.”
